The Import from a Personal Backup subsection allows you to import data to the account from a backup file, which is created through the Backup section of the hosting Control Panel. The backup could be created on the same hosting account you are importing into or on another hosting account on the same platform. Thus, this section allows moving data between different hosting accounts.

File format

The Import from a Personal Backup section would expect a file that is created through the hosting Control Panel's Backup section. As such, the name of the file would be one of the following:

  • files.tar.gz
  • mail.tar.gz
  • mysql5.tar.gz

The interface will also accept the extracted version of the tar.gz backup files (eg. files.tar).

Selecting the file for import

You can select the file for import through one of the following methods:

  • local file - if you have the file uploaded on the hosting space, you can select it through the Local file (on server) option.
  • remote file (FTP) - with this option, you can select a file that is on a remote FTP server.
  • remote file (HTTP) - if you have the file on a remote server, you can select/upload it over HTTP/HTTPS. This option is not suitable for very large files - it is recommended to use FTP instead.

Selecting the data to import

On the next screen of the wizard, you will have to select the data you would like to import on the account.

  • Files

    When importing a backup that contains files (files.tar.gz), you can select the data you would like to import. The first section of the screen allows you to choose where to import the data - to the main subdomain (www) or the private folder. If the backup file contains subdomains as well, you will see a section where you can choose which subdomains to import. Note that you will not be able to import data in already existing subdomains. The interface will allow you to delete the existing subdomain prior to importing data to it. If you uncheck the Import files checkbox, then the selected subdomains will be just created, but no files will be imported in them.

  • Databases

    When importing a backup that contains databases (mysql5.tar.gz), you will see a list of the database dumps that are in the file. If the database exists on the account, you will see a link to delete/remove it prior to importing data to it.

  • Mails

    When importing a mail backup (mails.tar.gz), you will see a list of mailboxes that the archive contains. If a given mailbox already exists, all the mail located in the archive will be added without deleting the existing mails in this mailbox. If you uncheck the option Import messages for newly created mailboxes, the mailboxes will be simply created without importing messages in them. Note that mailbox passwords cannot be imported, so you will need to enter one password which will be set for all mailboxes that will be recreated. You can later change the mailbox passwords via the Mail Manager section of the hosting Control Panel.

Finish the import

When you are ready with the selection, you can proceed with the migration by clicking on the Continue button.

After the migration is complete, you will see the status of the performed tasks. Please note that you can cancel the operation by clicking the Cancel button at any of the steps.
